Tom, Human Sciences & Biodiversity Conservation - University of Oxford

Hello, I’m Tom and I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2022 after completing a BA (First Class) in Human Sciences and an MSc (Distinction) in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management. Whilst at Oxford, I also represented St Hugh’s College as their Charities & Communities Representative and participated in Oxford Hub’s ‘Green Labs’ initiative, in which I helped design and implement a series of “Climate Conscious Workshops” aiming to bring together local stakeholders around sustainable consumption practices and learning. Prior to my time at University, I studied Biology (A*), Economics (A*) and Geography (A*) at A-level, achieved 9 A*s and 2 As at GCSEand participated in debating societies and environmental action groups.

Since University, I have spent the last three years working as an Environmental Policy Consultant for a research and evaluation consultancy, where I have led research projects for the Department for Business & Trade, Environment Agency and Natural England across a range of public policy areas, including climate change mitigation, water quality and pollution, and agriculture. Through this role, I have become proficient in a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and am a skilled report-writer for a range of audiences. Alongside my professional career, I currently volunteer as a ‘Community Befriender’ in my local area and have participated in an access-initiative to provide Oxbridge interview and application preparation to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Through my time tutoring for Oxbridge interviews and personal statements, I have developed a personable tutorial approach that is tailored to the individual needs of each student and ensures an engaged and collaborative learning environment. My sessions are structured yet flexible and, above all, I want my students to feel confident in their own ability to learn and develop. Whether supporting students with subject-specific content, admissions test preparation or interview practice, I focus on helping them think critically, communicate their ideas clearly and develop the skills needed to succeed independently.
