Tate

Hi! My name is Tate, and I’ve just finished my final year at the University of Oxford studying Musicology. I specialise in teaching individual music lessons as well as teaching Mandarin.

At A-level, I studied English Literature (A*), Music (A) and History (A), I got 5 A*s and 6 As for GCSE as well as Grade 8 in both Piano and Cello.

Att Oxford, I chose to study the “Music and Pedagogy” module, which specialises in the methodology of teaching and the cognitive development in musical learning.

I am an experienced private Musicology tutor. I have taught A-level and GCSE Music for over three years; providing guidance whether it’s essay writing, listening questions, performance advice and music theory. I would be comfortable in teaching performance for pianists or cellists, I am also able to teach beginner to intermediate Mandarin after having done GCSE mandarin in year 8, as well as coming from a Chinese background.

I always had a personal connection with my teachers, I felt this was important to my progress as picking up a new instrument or a new language for the first time can feel overwhelming. Therefore, I aim to always understand the students’ individual strengths and interests to maintain a comfortable learning space as well as guiding them to be confident in their learning abilities.
