Solomon - Geography, University of Cambridge

Hello! I'm Solly, a recent graduate of the University of Cambridge, where I read Geography at Girton College and graduated with a 2:1. I was particularly proud to achieve a First Class dissertation and to have attained full marks in my EPQ examining the critical differences between the French Revolution of 1789 and the Russian Revolution of 1905. Before coming up to Cambridge, I achieved an A* at A Level in Geography and an A in Mathematics, and have maintained a keen interest in both subjects ever since.

For the past year I have been working as an Associate Mathematics Teacher at St Mary Magdalene Academy in London, where I have had the pleasure of teaching students across the full range of abilities. Alongside my classroom work, I have built a growing private tutoring practice in both Maths and Geography, supporting students from GCSE through to A Level and university admissions. I am also a member of the Royal Geographical Society, and enjoy discussing all things geography far beyond the confines of the curriculum!

A distinctive feature of my tutoring approach is an emphasis on the conceptual tools that Geography, in particular, trains students to use: scale, rate, spatial inequality, and future projection. In my experience, students who learn to think through these lenses do not simply perform better in examinations; they develop a richer, more analytical relationship with the world around them. I bring this same instinct for connection and depth to my Mathematics tuition, encouraging students to see underlying structure rather than isolated techniques. I particularly welcome students who are looking for tuition across both subjects, or who are preparing for competitive university applications and want to develop the kind of joined-up thinking that admissions interviews reward.

Outside of academia, I am a keen footballer and a devoted, if occasionally long-suffering, Arsenal supporter.
