Scarlett

Hi, my name is Scarlett, and I am currently in my fourth year of an integrated masters in Biology at the University of Oxford. Prior to this, I lived in Singapore for 13 years where I attended a British international school.

I studied Biology, Chemistry and Politics at A-level as well as completing an EPQ looking at the ethics and scientific advances surrounding HeLa cells. Over all levels of my education I have endeavoured to challenge myself and partake in extracurricular activities that go beyond the syllabus. I believe a passion for learning and an ability to build a rapport with the student is what makes a good tutor. Sessions should be engaging and enjoyable for the student as well as provide a safe space for any questions to be asked and confidence to be nurtured.

Previously I have tutored GCSE Chemistry and Biology as well as being a welfare mentor for year 8 students. I have also been a coach for U14 and U12 students in Touch Rugby, a role that I thoroughly enjoy and have continued on since being at University. My priority in tutoring is to ensure each session is tailored to the specific student. People learn in different ways and therefore improvement can only be expected if the methodology of tuition is actively adapted to the needs of the student. Through this perspective I actively seek feedback to ensure I am providing the most effective learning environment for my students.

Other than academics, I enjoy playing Touch rugby, a sport I have played for more than 10 years. I have represented Singapore in the U18 Youth World Cup and competed in tournaments in Australia, Malaysia and Hong Kong. I was also in the Varsity match against Cambridge in my 2nd year and have played for different club teams both in Singapore and England.
