Poppy, Biomedical Sciences - University of Oxford
Hi, I’m Poppy! I recently graduated from Oxford with an integrated Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, where I specialised in cells and systems biology, focusing particularly on physiology, endocrinology, and the molecular basis of diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. I achieved a first-class grade in my final year, and my academic background means I bring both depth of knowledge and a real love for science to my teaching.
I achieved 3 A*'s in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths at A-Level, and tutor all three to A-Level, as well as supporting students preparing for the 11+. I also support students preparing for university applications. Having successfully navigated the Oxford admissions process myself, including the BMAT, I know how to guide students through applications and interviews with tailored support.
Beyond tutoring, I have a wide range of other teaching experiences. I spent a month in Uganda leading workshops on menstrual health and hygiene for 9–15-year-olds, and I volunteered for two years coaching sports to students with special needs. These experiences shaped my flexible, supportive and patient teaching style, where I hope to make every student feel encouraged to ask questions and approach learning with curiosity.
My tutoring is always tailored to the individual, with a focus on building confidence, developing problem-solving skills, and fostering genuine enthusiasm for the subject. I want to help students to reach their full potential, and just as importantly, spark a love of learning that goes beyond exams.
