Philippa
Ciao! I’m Philippa, a recent graduate of Italian and Linguistics from the University of Oxford. Having grown up in various countries, I’ve always been in awe of the world’s languages, so I chose to study the science of language alongside arguably the world’s most beautiful language for my degree. Now as a tutor, I focus mainly on teaching English as a foreign language, as well as Italian, German, Public Speaking and Language Aptitude Test tuition.
I studied the International Baccalaureate, opting to challenge myself with four subjects at Higher level (English, German, Philosophy and Theatre), as well as Maths and Biology at Standard level. I like to instil this desire for a broad education in my students, encouraging them to build knowledge in a wide array of topics, with achieving fluency in English being the ultimate goal.
I have several years of experience teaching English as a foreign language. While working as a live-in au-pair in Germany and Italy, I taught English to five children aged between four and thirteen. I have also tutored English online to children in China and Kazakhstan, preparing them for IELTS exams and English common entrance. I recently prepared a student for entry to Uppingham, tutoring him in English for a year. I also volunteer as an English teacher for refugees at a charity in Bristol.
Beyond academia, I am a keen actor; I performed in multiple plays and films while at Oxford and am a member of the National Youth Theatre. I love bringing that creative side to my lessons, ensuring fun and engaging sessions for my students.
