Our Tutors - Patrick H
Patrick, French - University of Oxford
Hello! I’m Patrick, a recent First Class graduate in French from Hertford College, University of Oxford. Before Oxford, I achieved A*s in English Literature and French, alongside an A-equivalent Pre-U grade in Philosophy and Theology.
I have tutored students one-to-one across a range of GCSE subjects, including English, French, Geography, Maths and Science. In particular, I supported a student with learning difficulties through their GCSE preparation, adapting lessons to their needs and helping them achieve their required passes. I have also provided wider freelance tuition, helping students build subject confidence, structure revision effectively and develop the exam technique needed to convert their knowledge into strong results.
My experience teaching extends beyond one-to-one tuition. During my year abroad in Aix-en-Provence, I worked as an English Language Assistant in two French primary schools, teaching classes of up to thirty pupils as well as smaller focus groups. I also tutored young learners at Les Petits Bilingues. These roles taught me how to make lessons engaging and accessible for students with very different abilities, personalities and ways of learning.
I offer tuition in French, English Literature and Philosophy/Religious Studies up to A Level, as well as GCSE English Language, Spanish, Geography, Maths and Science. I can also support Oxbridge applications, personal statements, interview preparation and French oral examinations.
My approach is encouraging but purposeful. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, while ensuring that every lesson has a clear aim and moves them towards greater independence. Whether the priority is improving grades, preparing for an exam or developing genuine confidence in a subject, I tailor lessons carefully to the individual student.
