Oscar, Medicine - University of Cambridge

Hello! I’m Oscar, a final-phase medical student at the University of Cambridge, where I am studying for the MB, BChir after graduating with a First-Class degree in Medical Sciences at Emmanuel College. Before Cambridge, I was educated at Eton College, where I achieved 4 A*s at A level (Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Religious Studies).

I have been tutoring for four years, working with students from primary school through to A Level. I currently offer private tuition in GCSE Maths and Sciences and in A Level Biology and Chemistry, as well as comprehensive support for medical school admissions, including UCAT preparation, personal statements and interview coaching. I have helped several students secure places at Oxbridge, and my own recent experience of the application process and of the medical course means I know what admissions tutors are looking for and how to help students demonstrate it. Last year I also worked as a Cambridge supervisor, teaching second-year medical students pharmacology in small groups, which has given me a good sense of what students need to know at university level and how to build the foundations for it.

My teaching style is rigorous but encouraging. I aim to help students understand why things work rather than simply memorise them, and I find that linking ideas across subjects, such as the chemistry underlying a biological process or the maths behind a scientific result, builds a much deeper and more durable understanding. For applicants, I place particular emphasis on structured, confident reasoning under pressure, since that is what interviews and admissions tests really assess. I therefore particularly welcome enquiries from students who would like to combine subject tuition with medical admissions preparation.
