Hi, I’m Melissa! I’m currently in my final year at the University of Oxford studying Music. I mainly teach piano and music theory, though I also offer university preparation lessons (including Oxbridge prep) for Music as well as GCSE Music tutoring. I have successfully completed the DipABRSM and am now preparing for my second diploma, the LRSM.

I completed my higher-level education at Ardingly College in West Sussex. I achieved 7 in Higher Level Music in the International Baccalaureate (equivalent of A* in A-Levels), and previously achieved 14 A* and 1 A at GCSE level.

Having received a German-style conservatoire education in piano and music theory throughout my 13 years playing the piano, I have been able to develop a very strong technique, as well as an understanding of how physical hand and arm movements contribute to the sound that is created. I have also been able to experience the different teaching styles of the various teachers I’ve had over the years. As a result of this, I am able to instinctively determine and adapt to a student’s needs. I have over 5 years of experience teaching piano, and have had lots of experience teaching online and in-person, to all ages (from 3 to 70!). In addition to this, I have been teaching piano for around 12 hours a week since starting my degree at Oxford.

Here are some testimonials:

“Melissa is a wonderful teacher who inspired my children to learn piano beyond our expectations. I appreciate how invested she is in developing my children’s understanding and ability, she genuinely cares. After trying several different teachers we feel lucky to have found Melissa. Her teaching methods are innovative and fun, my daughter now plays everyday without having to be reminded.”

“Track record is definitely a ponderous statement in music teaching. But Melissa's consistent high results speak volumes for the quality of teaching she provides. The step change in my daughter's piano playing was a direct result of her inspirational teaching and huge experience. Melissa has broadened the horizons of my daughter's knowledge and understanding in music, not just focusing on grades as some teachers tend to do”.
