Hi! I’m Max, and I’ve graduated recently from Oxford after three years reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics (2:1). I absolutely loved my time at Oxford and, in particular, its tutorial system. I was thrilled to have been awarded a scholarship and the Nancy Burton Prize from St Hugh’s College during my time there. PPE spans wide and far, but many of the papers I took were on the more technical side, including statistics, mathematical analysis, logic and the philosophy of mathematics (and I still keep up a passion for mathematics in my spare time, which proved very applicable to the economics at Oxford!).

Before university, I attended Tonbridge School where I was the top academic scholar in the humanities. I achieved four A*s at A-level in Mathematics, Further mathematics, Economics and Philosophy and Theology, all Grade 9s in my 11 iGCSEs, and won several essay competitions both in school and held by Oxbridge. While there, I also enjoyed taking on pastoral roles, supervising and monitoring the younger years.

As someone who was initially quite nervous about public speaking, I’m a big believer in helping others find their voice academically and learn to ‘think out loud’. In some of my previous tutoring, I found that students might possess the knowledge to answer a question while struggling to express their thoughts or organise their approach to the answer. By getting students to voice their thoughts to a patient ear and organise them without being held back by the rigidity of an exam syllabus, they not only build up the confidence to engage in the classroom, but also develop skills that make them stand out in interviews at Oxbridge and sought after by top universities and employers around the world.
