Leon, Politics, Philosophy & Economics (PPE) - University of Oxford
Hi! I’m Leon, a recent graduate from the University of Oxford and current youth worker. I read PPE and held multiple scholarships for academic excellence from within the university and external sources. Prior to university, I studied Maths, Economics, and Politics, achieving A*A*A respectively, and whilst applying to Oxford I scored in the top 2% for the TSA. At GCSE, I secured four grade 9s, five grade 8s, and a grade 7. I also engaged with multiple high-profile programmes, such as the Sutton Trust US Programme, Amos Bursary, and Target Oxbridge.
I am currently working as a workshop facilitator, with a focus on mental health, masculinity, race, and gender inequality. I am also working towards a level 2 Qualification in Youth Work, as well as being trained in Gender-Informed Practice, Trauma-Informed Practice, Mental Health First Aid, and I’m a Trusted Youth Ally. In addition, I provide private tuition in A-Level Maths, Economics, and Politics, as well as Oxford admissions preparations. The latter includes personal statement preparation, the Thinking Skills Assessment, and interview preparation. I have been tutoring for four years, and have led an Oxbridge admissions programme for a charity, securing interviews for 50% of students across social sciences, humanities, and STEM subjects. Amongst this, I have received positive feedback from students regarding grade improvements and university offers.
My style of tutorial holds the student as the active constructor of reality. Rather than deposit knowledge into a student, I prefer to let them build a relationship with their subject that they can take ownership of, and bring the content into their own terms. This goes beyond a singular subject or process into a mindset which can be applied to any pursuit the student wishes. This keeps the subject engaging, even for students who have not been inclined towards it. I particularly welcome clients who are eager to move beyond contained subjects, and focus on transforming thought processes.
