Hi, I’m Ian! I’m 23 and currently in my fourth year at Oxford University studying Biochemistry. Before Oxford, I was at Westminster School, where I received 4A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths at A-Level. I have tutoring and teaching experience from ages 5-20 in Biology, Chemistry and Maths including 6 months teaching in Kolkata before coming to university.

I have always appreciated the interdisciplinary nature of Biochemistry. In fact, I think it’s why I chose it! It also means that I have been studying all of Biology, Chemistry and Maths up to university level, so am comfortable tutoring these subjects from 11+ to A-Level and University Entrance.

Personally, I have always found it difficult to memorise concepts without understanding the conceptional framework. I absolutely need to understand what’s going on and I think this might be what drove me towards science! I have the same approach when it comes to tutoring - I will always focus on the concepts before moving to problems (and exam practice if needed!). I also think that this is how to get the most out of tutoring - working one on one can really isolate any areas of misunderstanding and help develop a real understanding of the course.
