Flavius Covaci - English Language and Literature, University of Oxford
Hello! I’m Flavius, and I have recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a First-Class BA in English Language and Literature (Course I), ranking in the top 10% of my cohort. At A-Level, I studied History (A*), Maths (A), Physics (A), English Literature (A*), and completed an EPQ (A*) on Angela Carter, securing full marks in the latter two and top grades across my GCSEs. I had a brilliant time at Oxford and was especially grateful to receive not only the College’s prize for best performance but also a Gibbs Prize for the Best Dissertation. My thesis ventured to challenge what we may consider literary theory - and its relationship to today’s political landscape - by positing Achilles as an intersectional schema for contemporary queer studies. Although I am looking forward to continuing this project through an MPhil in Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies at Cambridge later this year, my interests also include the gothic genre, European modernism, and everything poetry!
Alongside my studies, I was also the Editor-in-Chief of The Isis (the longest-running student magazine in the UK, est. 1892), 2024-25 President of the Poetry Society, and editor of The Ash: Hourglass anthology. Having published poetry internationally, I am also confident in tutoring for less common creative writing courses and competitions.
I have taken a year off to travel and write, but I still enjoy offering online tuition in English Language and Literature, History, extended writing projects, Oxbridge admissions, and general exam prep. I see tutoring as the perfect opportunity to not only consolidate your understanding of the curriculum, but to also expand your confidence beyond it, to develop your individual ideas at your own pace - without the pressure of the classroom. Since I started this work three years ago: I have taken up trustee positions at education and mental health charities; delivered over 150 hours of teaching to students of all ages; and seen many of my students continuing their academic journeys with the grades and university offers they dreamed of. In times both busy and spare, I have been known to enjoy noodles, tiramisu, and jigsaw puzzles.
