Hello! I'm Finn and I recently left Cambridge after three years studying Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computing as part of my Natural Sciences degree (BA hons). I relished my time at University, exploring many subjects I have grown to love and then specialising later on to deep dive on Physics and Mathematics to complete my degree. I also got involved with plenty of what University has to offer, getting involved with sports, theatre and chess to name a few. It was also here where I started developing my subject specific skills as a tutor and mentor as part of the Stem Smart program that aims to provide increased access to STEM higher education for all students regardless of their background. Before coming to university, I attained A*s at A level in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and spent much of my time volunteering and coaching sports at my school and local teams, starting my learning of how to motivate and teach skills to students with engaging sessions. I also completed singing exams up to grade 8 and won multiple awards at international Model United Nation conferences.

I am now working part time as both a science/maths tutor as well as a freelance software developer, offering tutoring in Maths, Physics and Chemistry to an A level standard and for university admissions. I have also got experience with multiple A level exam boards or courses including the various IB options for these subjects. I have been working as a maths and science tutor/mentor for 3 years now and have been coaching and motivating students in sports teams since I've been old enough to get involved. I have been grateful to receive positive feedback throughout my time tutoring, from parents and students alike. In particular, I've been delighted to see the positive impact of my tuition on student confidence, proficiency and overall outcomes.

In my tutor sessions, I like to encourage students to develop the breadth and depth of their problem solving ability, allowing students to apply their current knowledge to deeper problems, while highlighting the connections between new content and what they have previously encountered. I find that exploring novel questions in order to build a web of connections within and between different topics, increases the student's ability to answer multi-topic questions and builds their confidence when approaching difficult problems where many students might not know where to start. To support this web, I aim to provide some context behind the things they learn, armed by my broad study of the physical sciences. This connection to their daily life or to other subjects that they study, helps embed their knowledge and gain a familiarity of the contexts they may see when encountering topics in exams or interviews. As such, I welcome approaches from clients who wish to have tuition in multiple of the subjects I offer concurrently.
