Dora, Land Economy - University of Cambridge

Hi, I’m Dora! I have just finished my MPhil in Planning, Growth and Regeneration at the University of Cambridge, where I will be staying for another 4 years to do a PhD. My doctoral research is about digital nomadism from the perspective of economic geography and public policy. My MPhil was fully funded by the Department of Land Economy, and my PhD will likewise be funded by the Cambridge University Land Society, an association of Land Economy alumni. Before moving to Cambridge, I completed my BA in European Social and Political Studies at UCL, graduating with First Class Honours and winning a Global Undergraduate Award for an essay in my final year. My specialisms were Political Theory and French, and I was lucky enough to do an Erasmus Year Abroad at Sciences Po Paris, where I read for political science and history modules in French.

I have been tutoring students in French and Italian for over 4 years, primarily focusing on the GCSE, IGCSE, AQA A-level and IB exam boards. I took French HL as one of my IB Diploma subjects, obtaining a grade of 7 as well as a C1 certificate in 2017 when I finished high school. French was also a key pillar of my Bachelor’s degree and Year Abroad. I am a native speaker of Italian as I grew up in Italy, attending school there until the age of 14. Throughout my years of tutoring I have built strong relationships with my students and their families, often leading to referrals and recommendations for further tutoring work.

The strength of my tutorial approach lies in being empathetic and committed to adapting the content and materials I use to teach based on my students’ needs, not just in terms of their level, but also what they are interested in. I really believe in listening to students and letting their own passion shine through, which I believe is especially key when it comes to language learning. I am currently learning my seventh language and in my experience the biggest “secret” to being good at languages is genuine love for the subject, which I seek to foster in all my students.
