Hi! My name is Dora Abbi, and I am a Cambridge medical student with over four years of experience tutoring students across the 11+, GCSE, A-level, and university admissions process. Alongside tutoring, I have enjoyed success in numerous national and international essay and research competitions, as well as receiving awards for my community service work.

I have extensive experience tutoring English Literature, English Language, and the sciences / Maths at GCSE level, alongside Biology and Chemistry at A-level. I also have considerable experience mentoring students through university admissions. Last year, both of my Oxbridge applicants received offers, while many of my medical applicants secured places at top universities. I support students with interview preparation, UCAT tutoring, personal statement development, and building strong super-curricular portfolios.

I am passionate about igniting a genuine love for my subjects by making tutorials collaborative conversations rather than one-sided lectures. My teaching focuses on helping students develop confidence in their own thinking, encouraging them to question, reason, and actively engage with the material.

Lessons typically begin with open-ended questions and active recall based on specification points, allowing me to assess and build on each student's existing knowledge. Once these foundations are in place, I introduce exam-focused content, using examples, diagrams, and discussion to explain more challenging concepts.

I believe the sciences are deeply interconnected, and that true understanding comes from recognising the links between different topics rather than viewing them in isolation. This is reflected in the highest-mark exam questions, which often require students to synthesise knowledge from across the specification. As a result, my lessons are designed to continually draw these connections together through discussion, with me guiding students as they apply new concepts to increasingly challenging questions.

I take a similar approach to English, where I believe the strongest analysis comes from making thoughtful connections between ideas, themes, and contexts. For this reason, I often tutor English Literature and Language together, helping students develop analytical skills that transfer across both disciplines while building confidence in their writing.
