Connall, Modern and Medieval Languages (MML) - University of Cambridge

Hello! I'm Connall, and I recently completed an MPhil in Modern and Medieval Languages at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, graduating with Distinction and a Cambridge Trust Scholarship for academic excellence. Before that, I received a First-Class degree in French and Italian Literature (MML), also at Cambridge, where I was awarded the Boorman Prize and named a Scholar of the College for outstanding results and a mark of Special Excellence in Italian. My studies gave me the opportunity to work and research in France, Italy, Portugal, Canada, and Tunisia, with a particular focus on the intersections of politics, literature, and culture.

Since graduating, I have been working internationally as a teacher and tutor of languages. Through the British Council, I have taught in both Austria and Spain, creating and delivering lessons in English and Spanish to secondary school pupils and sixth-form-equivalent students. I have also contributed to the development of bilingual programmes and led workshops on topics ranging from literature and linguistics to university applications and CV writing. Alongside this, I have worked across the UK, China, and Cambodia on international university applications. My role involved running admissions workshops, advising families on university pathways, presenting to large audiences, and engaging with diplomats, academics, and education specialists. In addition to teaching, I have developed a broad linguistic repertoire: fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Italian, with additional working knowledge of Portuguese, Russian, German, Catalan, and Levantine Arabic.

I offer tuition in French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and English Literature and Language, supporting students from GCSE to university level, as well as those learning languages for professional or personal reasons. A distinctive feature of my approach is my belief in treating language as a bridge — between cultures, between disciplines, and between people. Whether preparing students for Oxbridge interviews, guiding them through literature in a foreign language, or helping them develop practical fluency for life abroad, I aim to create connections that make learning not only rigorous but also rewarding. I also think it is important to draw out the social side of language learning — building confidence and drawing on as much cultural content as possible — and I aim to integrate this into my lessons while tailoring each class to the student's individual interests.
