Amelia, Spanish student Oxford University

Amelia

Hi, I’m Amelia! I’m currently in my final year studying Spanish at the University of Oxford. I took the International Baccalaureate, where I got 44/45 points, including top marks for my higher-level subjects, Spanish (7), English (7) and History (7).

I have lots of experience tutoring including long term GCSE students, and an applicant who I helped successfully gain a place at Oxford, guiding them through the interview process. I have also worked and lived with families near Zaragoza, Spain, teaching English. As a result of this, I am aware that, particularly with languages, learning is most successful when students engage with the target culture, including listening to songs and watching videos. Languages are much easier to learn when they’re not just coming from a textbook!

I know that there is no single approach to teaching languages. I create material before every session, tailoring it to the student’s learning style. I am passionate about teaching languages and building up my students’ confidence and strongly believe that speaking Spanish is not just a skill for the exam but for later life too.
